Woo hoo!  I ran in my first 5K this morning.  It was an unofficial race that was part of the Holy Trinity weekend celebration so I think the actual distance was more like 3.02 miles, but that's not really important this time around.  I finished in 26:46 that includeed two one minute walk breaks (after running for 15 minutes and 22 minutes).  The winner was some high school kid who finished in 18:00 flat.  At least I beat the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the girls 14 and under division.

I've been "training", in the loosest sense of the word, using this program, and it works very well.  It builds you up slowly to a goal of running for 30 minutes without too much focus on how far you're going.  Without the race, I'm at the point where you run 13 min/walk 1 min x 2 and run 2 min to finish up.  All in all, I enjoy running a lot more than I thought I would, especially the fact that I can do it when I travel without too much trouble.

Are there more races in the future?  I'll let you know after I get to the point where I'm running for the full 30 minutes and reward myself with a new pair of running shoes.
